Avenue Primary Academy Students with Ofsted Banner

Welcome from the Headteacher

At Avenue Primary Academy we recognise and develop the potential of each and every person, empowering them and giving them the confidence to play a positive role in society as responsible citizens. We aim high and believe we can succeed. We work as a team in a supportive community, where everyone is valued equally within a safe and engaging environment.

It is a real privilege to be the Head Teacher of Avenue Primary Academy; to work with inspiring and committed staff and governors, and be supported by dedicated parents and PTA. I am proud to have so many friendly, inquisitive and positive children – over 1,000 of them! Our children have positive attitudes to learning, high standards of behaviour and excellent attainment across the curriculum. We are also very lucky to have a large specialist base for children with Autistic Spectrum Disorder.

Avenue is committed to being a Rights Respecting School and we put the Rights of the Child at the core of all that we do. We know children learn best when they feel safe and are confident in knowing themselves. We pride ourselves on challenging our children to think, question and challenge themselves, becoming life-long learners.

One of the things that makes Avenue unique is its size. We are a large school and are always trying to do our best to ensure consistency, have good communication for all and maintain a strong sense of community. To do this we work mainly in ‘Phases’ (two-year groups together) to allow the children and parents to feel like they are in a smaller school within a school.

We are proud to be an inclusive school, with pupil and staff wellbeing at the centre of everything we do and all decisions we make. We have high expectations for all our children, strive to have an engaging and interesting curriculum, develop pupils love of learning and develop their interests and talents.

At Avenue we firmly believe that education is a partnership between home and school; we regard you as an active partner in your child's education and value your interest and support.

I hope that this website will give all the information you need about our school, the staff and the many activities that our children enjoy through our curriculum and our extra-curricular activities.

If you would like to come and meet us, please contact the school office to arrange a visit.

We have learnt about ADHD this week. ADHD affects the way your brain works and explored that it is a bit like having a “racing car brain”. We also discussed how some people with ADHD can make great inventors and entrepreneurs because they are so creative! Children in Key stage 1 explored being creative by completing ‘this is not a box’ activities.

Today Year 5 were part of the Chickpea Project and got to taste Noah’s Pudding.  The Life of a Chickpea is a workshop that utilises the creative imagination of students to aspire to actively promote the British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect and tolerance for those of different cultures, faiths and beliefs. We had visitors from the Muslim, Quaker and Hong Kong communities as well as two police officers. #noahspudding

Miss Dyson from @sutton_music has been working with Year 6 using an IT programme called sound trap. They are creating a jingle which they will then use to make their own adverts. This week in nursery their book of the week is: The Gruffalo 📚 To link to this they had the excitement of making Gruffalo crumble. They got stuck in using their hands to mix the ingredients, cooked it and then taste their hard work.

📚 Book swap 📚 On world book day our wonderful PTA team set up and organised a book swap for the children. On the run up to world book day children brought in books that they no longer needed to help create a book swap for each other. The PTA got in the spirit of the day and also dressed up and created an amazing display of books ready for the Children. Thank you for creating this event, all the children loved being able to choose a new book to take home.

Rhino Class took place in a sitting volleyball tournament with 8 other local schools. They won some games and those they lost were only by a narrow margin. The children had worked hard over the half term to learn the rules and skills they would need to take part and represented the school brilliantly showing resilience, team work, perseverance and great sportsmanship.  They should be very proud of themselves! 🏐 🏅
